Accent Walls Done Right in Your Dining Room
The dining room can oftentimes be a very neglected space in the house. If you’re not hosting dinner parties all the time, it’s easy to shrug your shoulders and ignore the space. We’ve all seen that dining room - the one with hand-me-down furniture, an ugly chandelier, and way out-of-date red walls. There are so many fun and easy ways to add more spice to your dining room. We absolutely love a bold statement-making accent wall to set the design tone of your space.
Here are some tips to create an eye-catching wall that gives your dining room alllll the feels.
1. Go bold with Color
A fresh coat of color on a single wall (or even several walls) is an easy way to pack a ton of stylistic punch. It takes a space from bland to bold in no time. And great news....you can always paint over it if your taste or style changes! Check out these amazing examples of using a bold painted wall in the dining room. We love how the deep blue in the left picture adds an anchoring feel to the spacious room and is a nice contrast against the light floors and wood furniture.
2. Use an eye-catching pattern
We must admit, we have a soft spot for good old fashioned wallpaper. We even put wallpaper in the powder room at our new warehouse. And with so many peel and stick options these days, it is much less permanent, a.k.a, scary! #commitmentphobe. Add a feature wall of an oversized pattern in a bold color for instant personality. You'll love dining in (or drooling over) your updated space. We love these peel and stick options from Wayfair and Home Depot.
3. Add some 3D texture
How cool is that stone accent wall below? The stone brings a natural warmth and tons of visual interest to the dining room. Faux and natural stone veneer panels are available through a variety of outlets, including Wayfair, Norstone and NSVI. Another textural option is to create a bold geometric pattern on your wall, like the middle and right examples below, which can easily be recreated with wood trim and paint. See this DIY blog post from Olive and June detailing how to create a geometric accent wall in your own home.
4. Create a focal gallery wall
If you are less inclined to change the walls via paint, wallpaper or another material, opt for hanging a variety of art, mirrors, or photographs as a feature in your dining room. This is a wonderful way to add character and a personal touch to your dining space. The black and white photos in the first picture below, evenly spaced in black frames with thick matting, show a peek into this cute family's life. Find similar frames here (with multiple sizes to choose from). In contrast, the center and right images mix of artwork, sconces, and antlers spaced asymmetrically showcase a more eccentric sense of style.
