STAGING STAPLES FROM TARGET
It’s no secret that Target is amazing and with new lines from Studio McGee and Hearth and Home, it’s a go-to stop for home decor. We shop for our staging inventory from both wholesale and retail vendors and Target is usually our first place to look when we need something in a pinch. Here are some of our favorite staging staples from Target, how we’ve styled them, and whether we recommend them for home use as well.
FRAMED ART PRINTS
The framed art selection, particularly in the Studio McGee line, has been showing up regularly in our staged properties. We love the neutral framed canvases for mantles and open walls, as well as the smaller framed pieces hung in bathrooms or leaning in front of mirrors.
PROS: the pieces are affordable and easy to hang
CONS: they are readily available therefore you may see them everywhere
BEIGE Contemporary Channel Stitched Sofa
We ordered a few of these Christopher Knight beige sofas with clean lines and neutral fabric for our staging projects. The contemporary design of the sofa works well in any style home and compliments our other staging pieces. With a price tag of $400, it was a great find for our inventory; however, the sofa is anything but comfortable so we wouldn’t recommend for homeowners looking for a soft spot to land.
PROS: very affordable and works in all spaces
CONS: not comfortable for home use
BLACK Console Table with Woven Rattan Shelf
This Studio McGee console table is one of my favorite pieces in our current inventory. We struggle to find large-scaled console tables at a decent price and this black console fits the bill at 60 inches long and only $250. It works in a variety of homes and we use it in living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and entryways - it’s truly versatile. This console is definitely a piece that I’d like to purchase in multiples.
PROS: longer to accommodate bigger rooms, affordable, versatile design
CONS: none!
Upholstered Barrel Accent Chair
We have the Vernon upholstered barrel chairs in a few different styles and we’re hooked. This accent chair is just the right size and compliments our existing staging furniture in living rooms and bedrooms. Full disclosure, the natural linen fabric doesn’t stand up as well to multiple moves as the shearling fabric, but with the proper fabric treatment and handling it can continue to look beautiful. At $320 per chair it’s a little more than we like to spend for staging, but we’ve been pleased with this purchase time and time again.
PROS: perfect size and fits with most design styles
CONS: a tad more expensive than we’d like, tough to keep clean
HEARTH & HOME Faux Hoya Plant
Faux plants make their way into every room of every stage at Olive + Opal. While we’d love to use the real thing, faux greenery is a great option for home staging. Not all faux plants and stems do the trick, but we’ve found tons of great options at Target, including the Hearth & Home Faux Hoya Plant. We use faux potted plants in kitchens and bathrooms, as well as on consoles and within shelves. We love this faux Hoya plant because of the simple and stylish pot, the realistic texture of the leaves and the trailing aspect of the design.
PROS: realistic looking and stylish pot
CONS: a little pricey at $24.99 as compared to other retailers
WHITE Large Textured Ceramic Lamp Base
We use tons of lamps in all our staging projects, averaging about 8 lamps per house, and more than half of our lamp inventory is white. This textured ceramic white lamp base from Threshold is a great size for living rooms and nightstands and really affordable at $42. The style of this lamp leans a little more casual so we probably wouldn’t use it in every property, but it’s versatile and has tons of visual interest.
PROS: affordable and great size
CONS: have to buy the shade separately
