In-Drawer Outlets for the win

(Sponsored) When Docking Drawer reached out to see if we would be interested in trying out one of their in-drawer outlets, we were so excited to add some functional organization to our space! As an obsessively organized team, solutions that allow us to be more tidy are our absolute FAVORITE. Messy counters are the enemy. The hardest part of the process was settling on where we wanted to install the Docking Drawer. We have all sorts of ideas for where we could use one in our own homes - in the kitchen especially to create a charging area for my kids’ tablets, in the bathroom for my heat styling tools, or in the nightstands for our cell phones… so many ideas!

But, for the benefit of the whole team we installed our first docking drawer in our built-in coffee bar at the office. YES! Our coffee bar is sort of a home-base between the office and the warehouse and where our moving team often stops to check for snacks. With between 2-7 team members at the office at any given time, there is a good chance that someone needs to charge their device(s). Besides the fact that we are always looking for a charge cord because it doesn’t have a specific ‘home’, the counter can get super messy when a bunch are plugged in all at once.

In-Drawer Outlet Installed

The in-drawer outlet is shown installed in our office coffee bar, which is shared by all team members. This particular model allows us to charge (and hide) up to 8 devices at one time.

I am NOT very handy, but I was able to install this the in-drawer outlet pretty easily with just a few tools! Here is a link to the video recap of the process - it took less then an hour alone and I guess closer to a half hour with some help. Not bad at all! The only tool that you may not have handy is a jig saw for cutting the opening in the back of the drawer, but I’ve listed below all the tools I used in the project.

Tools needed:

  • jigsaw

  • drill

  • screwdriver

  • measuring tape (but I didn’t measure anything tbh)

  • cutout template (provided)

The model that I installed is 1514-232B 15 amp Blade Duo In Drawer Outlet. One of our favorite things about the product we selected is the total number of options - 4 USB’s, 2 mini USBs and 2 regular power adapters. Now we can charge up to 8 devices at one time without comprising our counter space! If you don’t know exactly what you need, Docking Drawer has a super handy quiz to figure out what will work best for your project.

You can take the quiz here.

Next on the list - my home bathroom drawer!
