transitioning to spring

Bed in a staged home

As the weather starts to warm up, we are making some easy swaps in our staging projects, as well as in our own homes to brighten up the spaces and welcome the sunshine. We use decor pieces that are light, crisp and fresh to transition to spring. Here are some easy ways to freshen up your home for the new season.

Replace heavy textiles with lighter fabrics

As the weather warms up, it’s time to pack away your cozy and heavy throws, like chunky knits and faux furs. Opt for lighter textiles, like cotton and linen, and source throws in warm colors and neutrals. We love the look of a throw at the foot of a bed, draped on a couch or chair, or stacked in a decorative basket.

Swapping out pillow covers

Similar to throw blankets, our pillow choices are typically season-specific. We tend to stage and style with darker and heavier fabrics in the fall and winter months - think jewel tones in wool and velvet fabrics. When spring comes around, we transition our pillow selections to lighter styles using cream, blush, and light blue or green hues. We recommend you take a quick trip to your local HomeGoods or Target for some amazing, affordable pillow options. Keep in mind that you don’t need to completely overhaul everything in the room. Compliment your existing furniture and the color schemes in your rugs, art and accessories and find pillows and throws that work well with the current decor.

FILL YOUR VASES WITH SPRING TIME STEMS

Another way to transition your home to spring is to store away your seasonal winter stems, filling your existing vases with springtime stems! We love green leaf stems, which incorporate the current colors of nature, as well as adds some texture and visual interest. Another great option is to style vases with blossoming branches or pampas grasses - basically anything that you see blooming outside you should bring indoors. And of course, fresh flowers are always a win!

GIVE YOUR HOME A CRISP & FRESH SCENT

Consider all your senses as you transition your home between seasons. In addition to the visual cues, you can change the scents in your home to achieve springtime vibes. It always makes me a little sad, but it’s time to pack up those holiday scented candles and replace them with crisp linen, light florals or even beachy scents. We have some great local candle vendors here in St. Louis - Glow Candle Co. and Urban Candle - so be sure to check out some of their spring seasonal scents.

We are so excited to welcome both the spring weather outside and the fresh spring time vibes inside. These few small changes to your decor can help bring you out of the winter slump. And don’t forget, with spring comes patio weather (my favorite season) so it’s time to remove the covers off your outdoor furniture and give them a good cleaning in preparation for outdoor gatherings. Similar to your interiors, some new outdoor pillows, rugs or even an umbrella in spring time hues can be a fun addition to your exterior spaces. Check out some great options below for spring shopping.
